What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient Japanese energy based healing modality for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese kanji Rei meaning Universal (Spiritual Wisdom) and Ki meaning Life Force Energy.
Ki (life force energy) is what gives us life. The free and balanced flow of Ki results in our health and well-being. Ki flows in and around us, through our organs as well as through our auras. When this flow is disrupted, the result is illness. Ki is highly responsive to our thoughts and feelings, when our thoughts are positive our Ki increases and when negative our Ki is disrupted and diminished. The unhealthy Ki attaches itself to the organs and tissues causing blockages and illnesses. Reiki treatments work to clear the unhealthy Ki allowing healthy Ki to flow again.
Reiki is administered by a Reiki Practitioner or Reiki Master, one that has received the required Attunements, Ignitions and Placements to be able to channel healing energy directly from the Universal Source. During a Reiki treatment the client remains full clothed and the practitioner places hands either gently on the client or just above the client to facilitate the flow of healing energy from the practitioner’s palm chakras. The healing energy is channeled directly from the source through the practitioner to the client; therefore, there is no energy exchanged between client and practitioner – the client receives high vibrational/high frequency healing energy.
Reiki is complementary alternative medicine. Reiki is not intended to take the place of medical care. Reiki is intended to compliment physical or psychological medical care.
Reiki is spiritual; however, it is not religious. It is not based on religion and does not require following any certain belief or practice. Reiki can and does assist one with spiritual development. Reiki works on the mind, body and spirit assisting one with healing of all types of diseases or conditions. Reiki can do no harm. Reiki can be helpful with illnesses affecting the physical body, such as:
- Cancer
- Chronic Pain
- Infertility
- Digestive Issues
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Alzheimer’s Disease
Reiki also works beautifully with illnesses affecting the mind, emotions and spirit, such as:
- Memory Issues
- Psychological Issues, Including Anxiety & Depression
- Stress Related Illnesses
- Healing Emotional Trauma
- Healing Childhood Issues
- Healing Addictive Behaviors
Reiki can also help prepare you for surgery as well as improve recovery time.
A Reiki session is peaceful and very relaxing, most people enter a meditative state, some even fall asleep. You may experience the energy as feeling pulsing, feeling warmth, feeling tingling or you may feel the energy moving all through your body. Some people do not notice any changes but still receive the benefit of the session. Sessions times vary and most practitioners offer sessions of either 30 minutes, 60 minutes or 90 minutes.
Reiki is a gentle and powerful non-invasive healing technique that truly must be experienced to fully appreciate. Reiki cannot do any harm as the energy comes from the Universe (or God, if you prefer) and adjusts for each person, making certain they get exactly what they need. If you’ve yet to experience Reiki, start with a thirty minute session – I promise you won’t regret it!
